In 2015, we were incorporated as the Marine Education & Research Society as a result of witnessing how Humpbacks were returning to the coast of British Columbia. So fortuitously, they had not been pushed into extinction as a result of industrial whaling and there was a second chance with them. We wanted to learn from the whales and make their stories count, to build community and decrease threats.

As part of our reflection on the past 15 years, we have detailed the stories of 15 Humpback Whale ambassadors. Please enjoy, share, and speak for the whales. You can even wear our MERS anniversary eco-apparel featuring these ambassadors, helping spark conversations and inspire action that benefits the whales and all they represent.

Thank you to all of you who have been part of this journey #ForTheWhales.

Here’s to all the years, and whales, ahead.
