Whales. Researchers. You?

Join the Marine Education and Research Society for a wildlife watching trip on Saturday September 26, 2026 departing from Port McNeill.

The excursion will be ~6 hours long aboard the Naiad Explorer with pioneering whale watching captain Bill Mackay of Mackay Whale Watching AND at least two MERS team members aboard (please note that team members on each trip will vary).

This special whale watching experience will focus on Humpback Whales, with the MERS team sharing details about our research on Humpback Whales and allowing you to experience what it is like to observe, study and identify these animals. We will also view and share information on the other plentiful marine wildlife found in this area during the Fall. This area is MERS’ core study area and we can’t wait to share it with you!

Check in will be at 9 am at the MacKay Whale Watching office, located at 1514 Broughton Boulevard, Port McNeill. We will return to the dock by 4 pm.

Passengers are asked to bring their own lunch and potable water.

The cost of this trip is $360. All funds raised will go directly to MERS’ education, research and response work. Only 26 spots are available.

Check out to see photos of the vessel and learn more about Mackay Whale Watching at www.whaletime.com. With great thanks to Bill and Donna Mackay for the donation of this trip.

Update August 6th. Both 2026 MERS fundraising trips are sold out.
If you wish to be put on a waiting list, please email us at info@mersociety.org.
